Backwaters and beaches

Alappuzha and Kumarakom make up the famous backwaters of Central Kerala, which is the most important backwater area in Kerala. The backwaters are brackish waterways just off the Arabian Sea where the main modes of transportation are canoe and ferry. For tourists, the famous houseboats are used for overnight stays on the waters. In Alappuaha the backwaters connect with Marari Beach, which is one of the nicest beaches in Kerala.
